Sam Davies shared Algreen’s mission to make the fashion industry greener, starting with polyurethane. Did you know that switching 1% of petrol-based polyurethane to a biobased alternative can cut 4 million tons of CO2 emissions and save 7 billion litres of water? Algreen is on a quest for sustainable partnerships and a route to validate and commercialise their innovations.
Algreen is a recipient of H&M’s Global Change Award and has been working with Danish brand Ganni, creating 100% biobased sequins for their SS24.
Alex Ganose from Imperial’s chemistry department delved into the computer-aided discovery of energy materials. Using automated calculations and machine learning, his team explores more materials, leading to energy-efficient products.
Alex’s wish list includes more participation in the Materials Project (materialsproject.org) and businesses interested in computational design for renewable applications.
Andrew Davies of Advanced Research Clusters (ARC) outlined how the real estate business supports science and innovation at four sites including Harwell and Hammersmith. Seeking a highly networked community, Andrew invites life science businesses to explore their beautiful Thames-side site.
Miranda Matthews shared Sania’s journey in delivering therapies for neural circuit disorders, focusing on spasticity. Despite being founded in 2022, Sania has already engineered AAVs with superior transduction of human motor neurons. Miranda’s wish list includes sharing their work with potential collaborators and investors.
Johannes, from GO Assistive Technologies, discussed the creation of functional, durable, and affordable prosthetics. Did you know that existing prosthetic legs are only designed for accessible urban areas? This results in low adoption rates in low- and middle-income countries where 85% of people with limb differences live. GO’s prosthetic knee is ready for market launch – with a patented mechanism and clinical trials done with 42 users across 3 countries.
Johannes seeks support for GO’s seed round (goal: £470k) or direct sponsorship of knees.
