Case study 1: Breaking down barriers between the community and businesses

Imperial’s community engagement team supports collaboration between the local community and the university. Their work includes the Agents of Change (AoC) network, which supports women around White City interested or involved in social action projects. When the initiative required mentors, Team Upstream introduced the Imperial team to the director of a local media venture. By attending AoC networking events, Team Upstream has also been able to meet and subsequently support its attendees. These include a local graphic designer who went on to design Upstream’s marketing material and has subsequently become a regular attendee at Upstream events. Team Upstream also uses its communications channels to publicise the fantastic work done by the Community Engagement team – see here.

Testimonial: “Upstream breaks the barriers between members of the community and local businesses. Through rapid introductions and plenty of ideas, they have helped strengthen our initiatives through more local partnerships.” – Priya Pallan, Community Engagement Manager Imperial College London.
